Diving, Boating, Yachting, Watersports   Information for Visitors to The Dingle Peninsula

Tumadóireacht, Bádóireacht agus Luamhaireacht, Eachtraíocht Farraige

The Dingle Peninsula is one of the very best all-round windsurfing spots in Europe. Surrounded by beaches facing literally every direction, Brandon Bay and the Maharees allow windsurfing for all abilities in any conditions. Cruise on a slalom board around islands with dolphins and basking sharks, or blast for miles in the comfort of a giant bay, overlooked by virgin green mountains. Or learn to windsurf in the shallows of Ventry Bay or Sandy Bay, on flat water.

For those interested in swimming with Fungie or otherwise exploring the underwater world of the harbours and small bays around the peninsula.
At Ventry Beach, 5 miles west of Dingle Town, and at Sandy Beach in the Maharees near Castlegregory, watersports gear can be hired, including paddle boats, boogie boards, surfing and windsurfing boards, dingies and canoes. Jamie Knox also offers windsurfing and surfing lessons for all abilities, including beginners.

The islands off the Dingle Peninsula are a diver's paradise, providing a wealth of variety . . . clean, unpolluted waters, sheer cliff walls, drop offs, kelp forests, wrecks, and a profusion of colours. The area is absolutely teeming with all sorts of fish, shellfish, anemones, sponges and seals. Visibility of 10m or more make ideal conditions for photography. This exciting underwater world is completely unexplored territory!

For those who have never been diving before but have a yen to give it a try, try-dives can be arranged, as well as diving lessons.

Bádóireacht agus Luamhaireacht

As captain of your own yacht, the destinations on this unique coastline are of your own choosing. The Dingle Marina offers 50 berths in Dingle Town, and makes an excellent base for day cruising to Valentia Harbour, the Blasket Islands, and the many small bays in the area. Derrynane to the south, Kilrush Marina in the Shannon Estuary, and the Aran Islands to the north are only a day's run away. Dingle Harbour is on the north side of Dingle Bay and offers shelter from all directions. The harbour is easily navigable by day and by night.

For the inexperienced wishing to venture out on the ocean, and for both young and old wanting to try their hand at dinghy sailing, the St. Brendan's Boat Club offer sailing courses and lessons throughout the year. All courses are conducted in Dingle Harbour, which is almost completely enclosed by land and offers natural shelter unmatched on the west coast of Ireland.
