Dick Mack`s Pub

Details

Dick Mack’s Pub  was opened by Tom MacDonnell in 1899 and three generations later, it is a wholly atmospheric experience located in the heart of Dingle, Kerry in the southwest of Ireland. Tom, who was stationmaster at Tralee and Dingle Light Railway & Tramway opened the bar in order to provide light refreshments to its clientele and also operated a grocery and general store up until his death in 1938. After Tom’s death the pub was taken over by his son Richard MacDonnell who established a successful boot store.  It was then that the pub became known as Dick Mack’s and his name was put above the door, a ‘k’ added for aesthetic reasons.

As a dual-function pub you will find beer and a fine selection of whiskeys on one half of the bar, and a leather shop on the other. Explore the bar and adjoining rooms where the Mac Donnell family lived until recent times, or just get tucked into one of the snugs in the bar and absorb the atmosphere of this unchanged Irish pub. Featured in numerous travel write ups it is a place where locals and tourists alike sit down and discuss all things relevant.

The Leather Shop:

The leather shop has evolved over the years. In the early days it was mostly making boots and shoes alongside articles for equine related activities.

Today it is focussed mostly on hand made leather belts. Using Italian bull hide the belts can be personalised and come with an iron clad guarantee. The shop also makes key fobs, coasters and other smaller items.

The Dingle Brewhouse.

The Dingle Brewhouse was opened in 2017 by three friends. Dick Mack’s Grandson Finn Mac Donnell alongside Aussie and Seamus opened the brewery focussing on providing fresh small batch beers to Dick Mack’s and other bars in the town. Today the beers are available in nearly all bars, restaurants and hotels in the town and surrounding areas. The brewery also offers tours and tastings.
